Identity and payment ownership are now part of the customs check

Uruguay strengthened identity controls for foreign online purchases in 2026. The buyer, payment-method holder and shipment recipient must align under the franchise rules, and users may need to complete the customs identity-protection registration with enabled ID Uruguay credentials. Do not place a purchase under one person's name and pay with another person's eligible payment method if you expect to use the franchise. Keep the payment record, invoice and tracking number until customs release.

The annual counter follows customs release, not your shopping calendar

Uruguay Customs says the date that matters for franchise counting is the customs release date, not the date you clicked Buy Now. An order placed near year-end can therefore affect the following year's planning differently from what the purchase date alone suggests.

Check your remaining franchise use before building a larger cart. If you have already used the annual amount or all three shipments, a new order may need a different customs regime and a different cost calculation.

A promotion is useful only if the parcel still fits the regime

For a non-urgent order, compare AliExpress event timing in the AliExpress sale calendar, but do not let a coupon push the shipment above your remaining annual franchise amount or into a product category that the regime excludes.

Before paying, confirm the exact variation, total purchase value, parcel weight, remaining annual franchise, identity/payment alignment, seller history, shipping method and return terms. For a higher-value item, compare the full cost after VAT with a local alternative.
