AliExpress can offer Tunisian shoppers a wider product range, but the customs treatment of a parcel depends on what is being imported, its value and whether Customs considers the shipment non-commercial or commercial. That makes a single blanket tax percentage or delivery promise a poor basis for deciding whether an order is worthwhile.
Tunisia’s Customs administration publishes specific guidance for international postal parcels and a current 2026 tariff lookup. Those are more useful than generic marketplace rules copied from older country pages.
How international postal parcels enter Tunisia
Tunisian Customs says all international postal shipments entering or leaving Tunisia pass through the Tunis-Carthage sorting centre, where they are centralized and sorted.
For shipments arriving from abroad to individuals and considered non-commercial, Customs describes a simplified postal treatment. The way charges are calculated can depend on whether the shipment has commercial value, the estimated value, the invoice or the CN23 customs declaration attached to the parcel.
For a purchased AliExpress order, keep the invoice or order confirmation because Customs may use the actual transaction evidence when assessing a parcel of significant value.
Do not assume every small parcel gets one flat rate
Tunisia has a global flat-tax mechanism for certain small, occasional, non-commercial consignments to individuals, but it is not a universal AliExpress tax rule. Customs also distinguishes parcels of significant value and commercial imports, which can be assessed under their normal tariff treatment.
The safest approach for an online purchase is therefore to check the product’s current tariff treatment instead of applying one percentage to every order.
Tunisia’s Tariff Web 2026 allows users to look up the current customs nomenclature, import duties, VAT, specific duties, preferential rates and documents or approvals required for particular products.
Customs value can be based on the transaction
Tunisian Customs explains that the transaction value — the price actually paid or payable for goods sold for export to Tunisia, subject to the customs valuation adjustments — is the primary basis for determining customs value.
This is another reason to keep the marketplace invoice, payment evidence and shipping information. If the parcel is inspected or the declared value is questioned, Customs may need evidence that supports what was actually purchased and paid.
Restricted goods require more than a low price
Customs warns that some products are absolutely prohibited, restricted or subject to specific controls for public security, health or other regulatory reasons. A parcel can therefore require additional documents or intervention even when its value is low.
Before ordering a regulated item, check the 2026 tariff and the competent Tunisian authority for any permit, technical control, certificate or other requirement. A seller accepting the order does not prove that the item can enter Tunisia without conditions.
Commercial character changes the process
Tunisian Customs states that goods imported as part of a commercial operation are subject to normal foreign-trade and exchange formalities, payment of the applicable duties and taxes, and a detailed customs declaration.
That distinction matters if an order’s quantity, nature or value makes it look commercial rather than occasional personal consumption. Avoid splitting or structuring orders based on the assumption that every marketplace parcel will automatically be treated as a simple personal shipment.
Delivery: use the actual checkout estimate
AliExpress delivery to Tunisia varies with seller location, shipping method, carrier handoff and customs handling. The useful delivery estimate is the one shown for the exact item and shipping method at checkout.
Before paying, check:
Whether the exact product currently ships to your Tunisian address.
The delivery window shown for the selected shipping method.
Whether tracking is included and remains useful after arrival in Tunisia.
Whether the order is urgent enough to justify a faster option.
Whether possible customs charges would change the value of the purchase.
Postal parcels can be released directly or may require the recipient to regularize customs formalities when a controlled item or additional document is involved. Follow the tracking and any notice from the postal or customs process rather than assuming every parcel will be delivered identically.
Payments and currency
Use the payment methods AliExpress actually presents for your account and order. Payment availability can change, and the final amount debited can depend on your bank or card issuer’s currency-conversion terms.
For a higher-value purchase, compare the final checkout amount, possible customs charges and conversion costs together rather than judging the deal from the product price alone.
Sales and coupons: compare the final cost
A coupon can reduce the AliExpress price but does not remove customs restrictions or automatically determine how Customs will assess the parcel.
For a purchase that can wait, PoKupar’s AliExpress sales calendar can help you compare major promotion periods. The useful saving is the one that remains after shipping, import charges and payment conversion are considered.
Tunisia checklist before checkout
Before placing an AliExpress order for delivery to Tunisia, confirm:
The product can currently be shipped to your exact address.
The order-specific delivery estimate and tracking level are acceptable.
You have checked the current tariff or regulatory treatment if import charges could materially affect the purchase.
The product is not prohibited or restricted without the required approval.
The quantity and nature of the order are consistent with personal rather than commercial use if you expect personal-shipment treatment.
You will keep the invoice or order confirmation, payment record and tracking information until delivery.
Your address and phone number are complete and accurate.
AliExpress can still be useful in Tunisia, but the best buying decision comes from treating customs classification, parcel value, documentation and delivery as part of the order from the start. Current Customs guidance is a better basis than fixed delivery windows or a single tax percentage applied to every purchase.
